The Casino Expansion of the Mohegan Sun at the Pocono Downs

On June 18th, 2008, the Mohegan Sun at the Pocono Downs, will debut their new casino facility, valued at $208 million on July 17th, 2008. Jim Wise, the casino spokesperson commented that the casino expansion project of the Mohegan Sun will include a hotel, health spa, convention center and entertainment facilities.

The state's very first slots facility, the Mohegan Sun opened on November 2006 with one thousand one hundred slot machines crammed in a temporary slots facility at the Pocono Downs racing track. But the competition from the Mount Airy Casino resort from Monroe County-which offers 2,500 slot machines, restaurants, a nightclub, spa and hotel rooms has affected Mohegan's profit intake.

The casino gaming expansion, named as Project Sunrise, will expand the area of Mohegan Sun in a fifty mile radius. Mr. Wise commented that he hopes that this will attract more customers from outside of the state and it will help them keep their customers from going to play outside of the state. The 300,000 square foot expansion will feature 2,200 slot machines and different eating establishments like Ruth's Chris Steak House, Rustic Kitchen Bistro and Bar, Bar Louie and Pearl Sushi Bar and others.

If casino table games are allowed in the state-supporters commented that it will take around three bills for such proposal to be passed in Harrisburg-there are more plans to increase the gambling space to house 75 more casino games.
