Casino Film Review
Perhaps the best film ever to made about casino life, Casino, a movie released in 1995 depicts the life in Las Vegas in the 1970s and 80s. Centered around two gangsters who arrive in the city in order to leave their mark, and of course, make a lot of money. One of them, the more civilized of the two, tries to make a living in the casino and to leave a decent life with his showgirl wife, Ginger, played by Sharon Stone.
Through the movie we see Sam, the main character played by Robert DeNiro, live with his wife, fall to drugs and alcohol and in the end lose everything. However, apart from the rich storyline and wonderful acting, perhaps more interesting is the background. In Casino we see Las Vegas emerge as we never have before, with all the money, glitter, glamour and all the rest of the things that make Las Vegas so great.
What is more important is that the film, while very interesting to watch and entertaining, is not relevant to today's reality. The casinos in Las Vegas are no longer in the hands of the mob, nor are they money laundering operations. The revolutionary laws passed in the 1990s assure this. However, as a movie, Casino is great for gamblers and people who have no interest in the casino alike.
