Craps History
Craps is a well known casino game, and Craps history in no less riveting.
We start the journey through Craps history in 1125 AD, when the earlier version of Craps, called hazard, was first played. It was Sir William of Tyre and his men who played this game while holding the castle of Hazarth in siege.
The original rules for Hazard, which resemble modern craps rules, were introduced by Montmort sometime in the 1700s.
Nobody knows for sure how the name Craps got stuck to the casino game, but some speculate that it comes from the English crabs, or from the French word Crapeaud, that means for toad. In any case, it is surely the most obscene name ever given to a casino game, and when you visit an online casino you often hear people shouting or writing "Craps!" after they lose, without referring to the game itself.
When the French got hold of the game from the English, they renamed it. "Crabs" was the name given to the losing situation where a player rolled a two. This was later mispronounced as Craps.
Craps in America
After Craps arrived to America it quickly spread, especially in the south, and by the 19th century it was simplified to the modern game we know today. This was the work of John H. Winn, who, unlike his name suggests, was not much of a gambler, but did contribute to the improvements in Craps history. He is responsible to such Craps aspects as Pass and Don't pass bets, and being able to place bets against the shooter.
Online casino Craps continue the previous history of the game, and for the first time enable for high quality Craps games to be played through secure online gambling casino.
