Maryland Legislators Considers the Viability of Casino Table Games

Maryland has dropped behind in the race to become one of the top gambling destinations in the northeastern gaming market. Maryland legislators started discussing ideas on how their state can catch up with its neighbors on March 18th, 2010.

A lot of different proposals were evaluated by state legislators on Thursday but the main topic seemed to be focus on casino table games. Pennsylvania legislators recently approved casino table games now Maryland lawmakers may do the same thing.

Senator Dolores Kelley said during a debate on gaming expansion that it does concern them that all of the states that surround Maryland, if they are going to depend on this gaming income, are in a better situation compared to them. Senator Kelley added that if their people want to on equal ground with their neighboring states, it makes sense to allow casino table games in Maryland.

Among the gaming proposals being considered were allowing veteran organizations to offer slot machines. These groups usually rely on gambling for financing and without the slot machines, many veteran organizations are having a difficult time. The casino table games option was considered at the recommendation of House of Delegates members.

They firmly believe that casino table games are needed in order to properly compete with other northeastern states like Pennsylvania. The state of Delaware is another state that has approved casino table games. Delaware legislators have already sports wagering last year. The state of New Jersey is also considering permit sports wagering as well.
