MyOhioNow.com Announces Completion of Casino Signature Campaign
On June 3rd, 2008, a Cleveland-based organization pushing for a casino in Ohio commented that they have gathered enough signatures to place the Clinton County casino proposal on the November 2008 ballot. MyOhioNow.com from Beachwood commented that they have gathered more than 400,000 signatures to push the issue into a statewide vote.
Rick Lertzman, who is the leader of MyOhioNow.com with Brad Pressman, commented that the proposal supports a $160 million casino resort to be constructed on the area between Columbus and Cincinatti. The casino project, proposed with Lakes Entertainment Incorporated from Minneapolis would feature 220,000 square foot casino floor which will feature 5,000 slot machines, one hundred gaming tables and 1,500 room hotel.
The facility will be constructed in Interstate 71 at Route 73. Ohio residents dismissed gaming referendums in 1990, 1996 and 2006, which means that the gaming proposal this year could face the same problem. The critics of the plan is already organizing a counter measure on the casino plans of MyOhioNow.com. Casino construction would begin with eighteen months of receiving approval.
Lertzman commented that county officials and commissioners have given their support to the proposal because of the economic benefits. The casino is expected to create two thousand to three thousand jobs for the residents in the area.
