Even in the early prehistoric days, there was always an air of magic around the swamplands of the Las Vegas Vally. However, our story does not concern itself with those titanic times. We are concerned with How Las Vegas turned into the Gambling Capital of the World.
It all began with a Spanish exploration wagon train that ran out of water. It was Rafael Rivera who found the spring or artesian well water that paved the way for the beginnings of a trade route that passed the Las Vegas Valley. Soon after, a settlement was founded. At this time, Las Vegas was still a one-horse town, there was no gambling and no casinos in it.
The development of gambling in Las Vegas was all but stunted in the first decade of the 20th when Nevada passed an anti-Gambling law. However That didn't stop the true gamblers in Las Vegas. Clandestine gambling was everywhere. Illegal but acceptable gambling flourished until in 1931 the state legislature legalized casino-style gambling and the rest was history.
The first resort was built at that time, and from then on more and more casinos were built and more and more games were introduce. Now Las Vegas is the Casino Capital of the World and millions of visitors flock to it every year.
