Potawatomi Indians Plan to Collaborate With Supporters of the Casino in Wayland

On March 19, 2007, the Potawatomi Indian Nation that is currently building a casino located in the southwestern part of the state of Michigan, commented that they are not interested in working with people that continually criticize the project and are not supportive of the Potawatomi Indian Tribe's goals.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm of Michigan just approved a deal which will allow the Gun Lake Indian Tribe to build and operate a gambling casino at the Allegan County's Wayland Township, which is near Bradley. Gov. Granholm also expanded gambling in Michigan in the recent months by allowing Club Keno in the state's pubs and bars.

A spokesman from the Potawatomi Indian Nation commented that their tribe is planning to employ many of the local people in the area, but they do not want to deal with any of the business organizations or individuals who are staunchly opposed to the casino plans by the Potawatomi Indian Tribe in the Wayland Township.

The Potawatomi Indian Tribe is planning to hire around 1,800 employees, feature 2,500 electronic gambling machines and about 80 other casino games. The tribe is also planning to develop the area into a top-class tourist/gambling destination in Michigan, despite the opposition from some groups in the area.
