Pompano Park Harness Casino Opens for Business
On April 14, 2007, the Isle of Capri Casinos launch the 1,500 Las Vegas style machines at their Pompano Park Harness Track in Pompano Beach. The establishment, which is a two-story building, is beside the Pompano Race Track grandstand which has been renamed as The Isle Casino and Racing at the Pompano Park.
The facility will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 am, which is the maximum number of hours that are permitted by the regulations of the state. The Pompano Park Harness Track is the 3rd pari-mutuel in the Broward County to launch a casino, under the referendum that the state voters approved in 2004 and the approval made by the voters in Broward in 2005. The Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino and the Mardi Racetrack and Gaming (the ex Hollywood Greyhound), debuted their casinos in November 2006 and December 2006 respectively.
Both casinos are located on Hallandale Beach. The Dania Jai-Alai located in Dania Beach is also planning to open a casino in 2008. Interviews with the customers of the casino showed that their strongest market for their slot machines can be found in the northern area of Broward and Palm Beach County and their biggest rival could be the two Broward Casino Facilities owned by the Seminole Tribe from Florida.
The Isle of Capri sent out announcements to the newspapers, television and radio stations that the gambling casino would be opened at 10:00 a.m. the next day. A crowd of 1,000 well-wishers attended the opening ceremony for the casino's first floor area, which contains the slot machines. The second floor of the casino is scheduled to open in May 2007, according to Doug Shipley, the General Manager and VP of the "racino" activities at the Pompano Park Harness Track.
